ESWC UK 2008 National Finals : The Winners

The players who will represent the United Kingdom at the Grand Finals of the 2008 Electronic Sports World Cup have been decided after a weekend of gaming at the Omega Sektor in central Birmingham where some 270 + players turned out and competed in the various events on offer at the forty eight hour event.

Coming out on top in the Counter-Strike 1.6 tournament were Team Dignitas who won the final against a strong Four Kings side by two maps to nil. Nuke and Inferno were the maps of choice and despite the best efforts of their opponents Dignitas took the win that many had predicted pre tournament and will now heading off to SanJose to represent the United Kingdom in the ESWC Grand Finals this August.

Warcraft III : The Frozen Throne saw last years winner Ben "deMuslim" Baker winning through once again defeating his main rival Omar over two maps in their best of three confrontation and cementing his place as the number one Warcraft III player in the United Kingdom once again.

Quake III saw Four Kings claim one of the coveted winners slots as Daniel "DDK" Kapadia clinched the top place after back to back wins in the discipline which saw the players returning to what they consider to be the best version of the Quake series.

Finally in the Trackmania Nations Forever event Jonathan "Nemesis" Smith was first over the finishing line in the series of races which will now see him putting his driving skills against the best the world has to offer in a bid to bring back one of the elusive winners medals from the Grand Finals.

theSGL Summer SLAM event

theSGL is delighted to announce our "Summer Slam" LAN event which is scheduled for June 7th and 8th and will be held at what can only be described as the home of gaming : the Birmingham Omega Sektor.

The event will cater for various game types, be it Counter Strike 1.6, Counter Strike Source, Call of Duty 4, Team Fortress 2, Supreme Commander or whatever else you want to play. Events will be held for any and all of these game types alongside the Trackmania Nations, Quake III, Warcraft III : TFT and of course CounterStrike 1.6 ESWC disciplines.

ESWC United Kingdom Qualifiers and final announced

We are proud to be able to announce the Electronic Sports world Cup United Kingdom online qualifiers and Finals event for 2008. The ESWC is the event that stands out in the competitive gaming calendar and this year will be no exception as the greatest players from around the world converge on San Jose, California for the ESWC Grand Finals.

The four disciplines being contested in the United Kingdom qualifiers and finals are :

The fourth official pack of tracks for Trackmania Nations ESWC is now available. This new pack is composed of eight tracks created by the community. Important update:

The ESWC Organizing Committee has decided to remove the value restriction on three game settings in Quake 3 Regulation. The ESWC Organizing Committee has decided to remove three restrictions regarding the client settings. The following commands are now not enforced with a default value anymore: cg_xerclients, cg_laghax, cg_nudge (except in LAN for this last one).
