The players who will represent the United Kingdom at the Grand Finals of the 2008 Electronic Sports World Cup have been decided after a weekend of gaming at the Omega Sektor in central Birmingham where some 270 + players turned out and competed in the various events on offer at the forty eight hour event.
Coming out on top in the Counter-Strike 1.6 tournament were Team Dignitas who won the final against a strong Four Kings side by two maps to nil. Nuke and Inferno were the maps of choice and despite the best efforts of their opponents Dignitas took the win that many had predicted pre tournament and will now heading off to SanJose to represent the United Kingdom in the ESWC Grand Finals this August.
Warcraft III : The Frozen Throne saw last years winner Ben "deMuslim" Baker winning through once again defeating his main rival Omar over two maps in their best of three confrontation and cementing his place as the number one Warcraft III player in the United Kingdom once again.
Quake III saw Four Kings claim one of the coveted winners slots as Daniel "DDK" Kapadia clinched the top place after back to back wins in the discipline which saw the players returning to what they consider to be the best version of the Quake series.
Finally in the Trackmania Nations Forever event Jonathan "Nemesis" Smith was first over the finishing line in the series of races which will now see him putting his driving skills against the best the world has to offer in a bid to bring back one of the elusive winners medals from the Grand Finals.
